We would like to introduce our newest spotlight athlete -- In his own words:
I woke up one morning in February 2013, after a night of drinking, and decided it was time for a major change in my life. So for starters, I decided to stop drinking alcohol, I was tired of the way I felt and I needed to change my life. I have always wanted to be lean and strong and I have always been in and out of gyms trying on my own to get where I wanted to be with my body.
I have watched the Games on ESPN for a few years and was always interested in CrossFit but never took the steps to find a gym. A few of my friends knew I was interested and suggest I volunteer at the Garage Games and since I decided to start this new life and do things that were outside my comfort zone I took their advice and volunteered. After helping setup for some of the WODS and watching some of the heats outside, they all of sudden did not have enough judges so I was picked to judge. Now keep in mind, I have never stepped foot inside a box, so after a really brief explanation of the standards for double unders, sled push and kettlebell swings, I was judging athletes. After my shift was over for the day I went into the stands and watched and it was at that time I decided to go home and really start looking for a box to go to and start my next chapter in my life.
So in October 2013, I posted something on facebook and an old highschool friend (Carrie F) suggest I try this box in Imperial. Now understand, I live in south city but grew up in Arnold all my life besides living in South Carolina for 3 yrs. So I looked around online at other gyms but knowing someone who actually worked out at the gym made it a little easier. So one evening after work, I went south on 55 instead of North and watched a warm up and a wod and spoke with Kim, who was so nice. At that time, I made the decision I was going to give this a try and go to the foundation class where Mike walked me thru some of the foundations and mechanics. Everyone was so nice and friendly and really made me feel welcomed which was big since it was a little of a drive from south city.
I actually finished up my foundations classes the day before my birthday and I could not think of a better birthday present then to join and really commit to this life change. I am now in my 7 month and the changes in my mind and body are simply amazing. I did my first comp 4 months after I started and, trust me, I was nowhere I thought I needed to be but with the motivation of the other athletes and the coaches, I was able to push thru it.
I just finished my 3rd comp this past weekend and just the pr’s I had and just having the endurance to push thru the 3 wods in one day can only come from the coaching we get from Mike, Kim, Jimmy and Callee.
Needless to say, I am excited about the rest of my life and where I am going and I am grateful for the new friends I have made in just the last few months. Looking forward to new pr’s and learning new lifts and just getting better with my flexibility, mobility and becoming a better athlete and there is no other place I would rather be then ENDLESS CROSSFIT because I know they will help me get to where I want to be as an athlete.
