When I was asked to be the next spotlight athlete, I was more than a little surprised. Even though It has been over a year that my oldest son Bobby and I joined Endless, I can't believe I have stuck with it this long.
Bobby and I found Endless one evening after talking about how bored he was with his workouts at a local gym and that a lot of his friends were doing this thing called Crossfit. I was getting ready to turn 50 and my workouts were mainly walking and going to a gym once in awhile.
I had never even heard of Crossfit it but I knew where there was a sign that said" Endless Crossfit". So, he and I drove there to see what we could see. We saw this warehouse where one of the owners (Mike) was there by himself cleaning. I remember looking around and thinking what in the world would I do here. Mike stopped what he was doing and started talking to us about Crossfit. I didn't really understand what I was getting myself into but Bobby was very excited and I decided to give it a try too.
On our first day we used the PVC pipe and then Mike put us thru a mini WOD. Of course Bobby had no trouble with it but I about passed out. I remember having to go outside to get some air and Kim coming to see if I was ok. Bobby told me later Mike just kept telling him "she will be ok" and Bobby saying " I think you killed her"! LOL
After this first workout, I wasn't sure if I would ever be able to do a real WOD. I kept showing up and Mike and Kim would work with me to be sure I knew what I was doing. It always feels like a have a personal trainer even when there are a gym full of people. I am starting to feel comfortable with some of the lifts and movements but am still surprised when Kim or Mike tell me that a particular lift I am doing looks good!
Sometimes people ask me what I like about Endless Crossfit and I tell them when I am working out I cannot think about anything else. I have no stress about what needs to be done or didn't get done at work or home. I love the family atmosphere and friendly people that encourage each other. I love that I can workout with my two sons. (My youngest son Sam has recently joined.) That we have something in common that we can do together. I love the accomplishment I feel when I finish a workout. I love that Kim and Mike are so passionate about what they do. They are a constant source of motivation for me.
Running is still hard for me and I am not yet been able to do a double under or a pull up with out a band. I have noticed changes in my body shape and the increased energy and general good feeling I have is something that keeps me coming back.
